Discus: 2xfire red; 2xturqoise; 1xmarlboro; 1xcobalt; 1xblue diamond. 2xgold gourami, 2xblue gourami, maybe a dozen each of neon and rummynose, a few hatchets and zebra danio, 2xblack skirt tetra, 1xSAE, 1xKribensis, 5xCory cat, 2xClown loach, 3xOtto, 1xbosemani and one big pleco.
Corals/Plants:
Indian Fern, Madagascar Lace, Crypts, Alternanthera Reinickii roseofola, Java Fern, melon sword, crypt wendtii, some wysteria, ludwigia arculata, more i'm probably forgetting...

About Yourself:
Had a 10 gal as a kid. Recently decided to try it again -- loved the idea of small natural looking aquascape. Here's my attempt. Spent more money than I originally would have liked, but very pleased w/ the set up (all things considered) and love to sit and watch.
Fish Kept:
7 Harl Rasboras; 8 cardinal tetras; 2 pearl gouramis; 1 blue gourami; 1 gold gourami; 4 oto cats; 1 siamese algae eater; 3 balloon rams.
Corals/Plants:
Anubias barterivar. nana ; java fern and moss; narrow leaf micro sword; rotala indica; jungle val. No C02 yet -- dose Excel (among others)
Tank Size:
40 gallons
Advice:
Research like crazy (books and online); the more you know, the easier it is (and it can be easy!).

I've been keeping fish on and off for 20 years. got my first 5 gallon starter kit when I was 7... lol it took me like 6 months to save up the 36 dollars to buy it at kmart!
I used to keep a 55 gallon reef tank but got into planted tanks not only because it is less money, but because I personally think a well done planted tank is every bit as mesmerizing!
