About Yourself:
I run this tank with my dad and we fall out about who makes it look the best! so we have both posted pics of our set up on here and then we can let you all decide which looks best.
Fish Kept:
Around 30 mixed malawi, plus a few clown loaches and catfish to keep on top of all the fry.
Corals/Plants:
Few Plastic plants and 75 kilos of ocean rock and 20 kilos of coral sand
Tank Size:
90 gallons
Advice:
Dont listen to most of the advice you get in the stores as most are just tring to get your money! Providing you keep on top of water changes and vacuming debris there is no need to constantly be adding chemicals and changing expensive filter media. I run 2 filters and and clean 1 every 2 weeks so they each get a clean every 4 weeks but i always change about 30% of the water each week. A good tip is to not to throw away carbon after it has been used but dry it in a low oven overnight then it can be reused time and time again. This all seems to work for my tank and i always have clear non smelling water and have had no disease yet and very rarely lose a fish.

About Yourself:
Have kept a tropical tank for around 30 years and it's that long ago I can't remember what got me into it, probably the beauty of the fish in particular the Siamese Fighting Fish which I managed to breed a few years back. Sat up until around 2.30 am watching them fertilize the eggs and put them into the bubble nest. In general I just love keeping fish and find it rewarding once the tank is all set up and planted out well, the latter being the hardest to do for me.
Pete.

Advice:
Spend plenty of time observing your fish and don't forget to do regular water changes of around 15 to 20% once or twice a week, I do it twice a week. I now use RO water because I have tested my tap water and found that it is high in nitrate.
I have my own RO filtration unit and also use the water for making cups of tea, which I must tell you tastes far better than tap water.
Another thing to remember is always wash your filters in a bucket of water that you have just drained from your tank and NOT under the tap, if you have more than one filter as I do then you can clean one and leave the other for a month, this way you will always have good bacteria in one of them.
There is plenty of good info on the net now, so just read up and filter the info to suit your particular needs.

About Yourself:
Used to breed koi when i was a kid
Fish Kept:
Various south american cichlids (dempsey, texas, brasiliensis, a few firemouths, cons)
Mbuna & Hemichromis variants
Aequidens
Bala sharks, black sharks, clown loach, other botia, ancistrus, pictus, synodontis, a dozen corys, danios and even a shoal of platies :)
A mad mixture of fish, but there's plenty of room and tank is stable and peaceful except at feed time.
Other (6ft) tank has guppies, platies, swordtails, corys, rams and a big ol' severum who's just celebrated his 8th birthday
Corals/Plants:
Cryptocorynes, swords, anubias, vallus, canadian pondweed, water lettuce, dwarf water lillies.
For the bigger hericthys, fake plants are better although they don't like to eat java moss.
Tank Size:
400 gallons
Advice:
Start gradually.
Dont over crowd
Dont over feed
Big tanks are easier to manage.
Dont skimp on decor as it reduces aggression between species and reduces stress on scaredy fish coz they can hide up.
Many plants are very sensitive to water chemistry, persevere to find the right type.
And buy decent filters and heating systems
