Advice:
dont listen to anything wal-mart employees have to tell you.
same goes for petco, petsmart and the like.
In fact many so called "mom and pop" fish stores are just in it for the money nowadays as well, they cant afford not to be.
The best place to get fish info is from a fish forum.

Go big or go home
About Yourself:
Just got into this hobby about 3 months ago, started with a 10 gallon, now a 29 gallon, and buying a 90 gallon at the start of summer, check back for pics of that in the future!
Fish Kept:
4 x Dwarf Gourami's
2 x Pacus
1 x Pleco
1 x African Chiclid
Corals/Plants:
All fake plants
Tank Size:

Advice:
Regular water changes and don't over feed. Other than that, just look at your tank, look at your fish, you will see what you need to change if anything!
Description:
This is my tank, i recently changed the rocks to these larger polished river rocks. This picture was taken a few days ago before I added my gourami's

Your Money or your wife.
About Yourself:
Currently plan to get a much bigger tank but decorate it along the same lines... look out for it!
Fish Kept:
this tank... I wanted a really light stock, a parrot cichlid, a few assorted malawis donated by a friend. The parrot cichlid keeps everyone else in check... in the pciture he is guarding his cave (at the bottom of the rocks) - anyone goes near there... they get it!
Corals/Plants:
No plants! Just sand and tufa rock
Tank Size:
50 gallons
Advice:
Read. Be patient. Follow the advice you get - but don't listen to everyone on internet forums. Observe your fish - in time you will know in an instant if something is wrong. Use lots of biological filteration, be religious in your water changes. and... ENJOY!
Description:
My current display tank... due for a full upgrade... With this one, I wanted a really striking contrast between the dark background and light rocks / sand. Scale was important too - i wanted the large rocks and moderately sized fish to suggest a much bigger space. Sort of in line with what Takashi Amano does with plants, not that i think my work compares to his!! Hope you like it...!!!

mmmm something!!!
About Yourself:
Been into fish keeping 6 years ish and am what you could call a fish geek!!! Really into it in a big way, just don't have the money to fulfill my aquarium dreams!!!
Fish Kept:
Mbu puffer, sailfin plec, rainbows, congo tetras, clown loaches, yoyo loach, bristlenose plecs, pair of Nigerian red cichlids
Corals/Plants:
giant vallis a few crypts, plenty of java fern some sword pants and a nice little lotus lilly
Tank Size:
95 gallons
Advice:
Keep things simple and research, research, research before you make a purchase
Description:
due to the large fish I am fairly limited in how I can set the decor out in this tank. The Mbu will get pretty big so will nee plenty of room. This is why all planting is around the edges leaving plenty of free space.
