About Yourself:
I started with a 29 tall which was a disaster size, moved to a 40 breeder which was great but not reef ready, and then acquired my current tank, a 58 gallon center overflow by Oceanic.
Fish Kept:
1 True Percula clown, 1 Coral Beauty Angelfish, 1 Coral Goby, 1 Yasha Hase Goby with Pistol Shrimp.
Corals/Plants:
SPS, Montis, T. Maxima, T. Crocea, T. Derasa, T. Squamosa, various LPS, etc.
Tank Size:
58 gallons
Advice:
Drill your tank for a sump, it will make your life so much easier in all aspects, being forced to use HOB things only makes more work; get the biggest skimmer you can, I don't think you can overskim a reef tank; perform water changes twice as many times as you think necessary, water changes are the best thing you can do for the health of your system; use proper lighting and leave room for upgrades down the road, test your levels weekly for dkh, calcium, and mag, and dose accordingly for low levels.
Description:
40 gallon breeder. HOB skimmer by Reef Octopus, HOB fuge by CPR with additional skimmer. 2x150 MH by Current USA burning XM 15k bulbs. Moving towards SPS dominated. Three clams, a few LPS, zoanthids. Too many fish; true percula clown hosting the hammer coral, 2 pj cardinals, six line wrasse, clown goby, yasha hase, coral beauty angel, scooter blenny. I change 15 gallons per week because of the high bio load and to replenish trace minerals. nitrate, nitrate, phosphate = 0. dKH = 8-10. Calcium = 450+ Magnesium 1450-1500. Using the 'Balling' method to dose.

Advice:
I find the most trouble with fish but certain corals have been tough as well. Just choose wisely and research your purchases before hand. Try and find a shop that you like and feel comfortable buying from. I hate shops that push items on you before even asking what you need.

Advice:
if you don't have someone that knows a lot about keeping a fish tank to help you set up and in case something goes wrong, start small, have a small 10 gallon tank for maybe a year so you know how to handle certain situations that may arise (leak, temperature changes, poor water quality, etc)
