my interests are motorbikes and metal music, oh and fish!
Fish Kept:
today the 29th june 2010 i have put my comets and shabumpkin in the pond. its been a hot day and and to be fair they were getting way to big! i have 2 large fancy gold fish and a shoal of 15 mixed minnows now..
Corals/Plants:
all plants are silk or plastic due to the fact that its just way too far down to mess about too much planting, the power head is so powerful the bottom of the tank never needs attention so im lucky! other than that if i do need to get down there i have a handy grabber i took of my gran!
Tank Size:
36 gallons
Advice:
water is the sacred god in the world of the gilled ones!

About Yourself:
I started keeping fish for my son, who saw a friend's aquarium and was VERY entertained. He was less than a year old at the time. It has turned into a hobby. Today, through accidental circumstances, I now have 2 10 gallon tanks as well as a 30 gallon. One 10g tank is my original, I have not had any problems with it since setting it up other than with my original fish who came to me with a case of ick and eventually got some fin rot mixed in. We lost only one fish though. Now they are healthy and happy. Having no other problems. Even after introducing more fish recently. It might be a bit over crowded but the levels are good, the fish are healthy and everyone seems happy.
The 30 gallon tank with 15 small ciclids and a small shark, we took on after my father-in-law died. We didn't really want it but after seeing the state of neglect they were left in we had to help them. The fish were so unhappy and hungry they started eating each other! We had to transfer all the fish to a temporary 10 gallon tank for the move. We reset the 30 gallon with 60% old water saved from the tank and ran it with the old Bio-wheel filter. After moving the fish over to the 30g, we eventually swapped out the HUGE bio-wheel for 2 smaller Aqueon charcoal filters. In total we lost 3 cichlids all due to the other fish, not sickness per-se. On the advise of an independent fish shop owner, we decided to use the new 10g for more small fish.
And that's where we are!

About Yourself:
Beginner fish-keeper. It is rare that I really get into something and invest a lot of effort into it but when I do it is long term.
This hobby definitively grabbed me.
Fish Kept:
Black Skirt Tetra, Pictus Cat, Blue Gourami, Neon Tetra
Corals/Plants:
Fake plants at this time.
Tank Size:
30 gallons
Advice:
I am a new hobbyists but would say to take your time. The process of setting the tank up is fun in itself so don't rush to get the results you have envisioned. It's a delicate balance (to quote both Radiohead and The Lion King hahaha) that can't be achieved in a day or two.
Description:
I have a tall tank that is just under 30 gallons. Inside of the tank I have black aquarium gravel with smooth, black to dark river pebbles layered on top of it. In the center I have a large Buddha statue that is almost the height of the aquarium. Behind the statue I have a bubble curtain and have various artificial plants surrounding him. The background is painted blue and am very pleased with the way it turned out. Penguin Power Wheel 350 Double Filter with Bio-balls and carbon. Also I have a self regulated heater and a aquaculture double air pump that's powerful enough for a 60 gallon tank. .
