I haven't had much luck on plants. I'm looking to start over again and wanted some advice.
So from some aquascape guides I gather that:
- You want a centerpiece that's larger than everything else. Recommendations?
- Grasses look nice in the front
- Some small - medium ish sized plants look nice around the edges
- Shorter plants go towards the forefront
Any other advice?
What's a good source for plants? There's not a lot of good choices out there it seems. Not in my area at least. I've went to a couple of pet stores and their plants just don't look very green or they've got slimy bits...

Sounds like you've got a good idea of planting and aquascaping in general!

For herbivorous fish algae are the main food, and for omnivores - a vitamin supplement in the diet. Plants, bringing the aquarium closer to a more natural habitat, encourage the fish to a more complete manifestation of the characteristics of their behavior.
To ensure that plants grow well and do not harm the aquarium, additional water filtration is necessary. You can read more here
