If a tank has been just set up somewhat recently is it okay / recommended to gravel vac it, say, once a week? How often is it actually necessary to gravel vac? I don't want to overdo it, especially on a newer setup where I could take too much of the beneficial bacteria away.

I believe this will depend on how heavily stocked your tank is and the type of filtration you have.
