Are you using old lights? That grows algae regardless of low nitrates.

time for new ones, rule of thimb is 6 months, if your running them more than say 8 hrs a day id cut back to 4-6 months

ok guys new problem, i got rid of my red slime algae, and now ive got this brown algae that is really stringy, it just kinda popped up after the red algae and it was just stringy on some rocks and then it stated growin on the glass,,, not i really have to do something about it because its getting caught on my xenia and preventing them from opening up, kind of like a cob web. Thoughts...

Same shit i'm battling! Looks like moss only instead of hanging down it floats straight up off the rock... Since i started attacking the rocks with a toothbrush and spare powerhead i've noticed that it's coming back much slower..

you guys are still doing weekly water changes...?

i started dosing vodka along with MB7 from brightwell... along with the vinegar/kalk mix, i do water changes once every 2-3 months and about 15 gallons...

my tank is super stable and my sps love it... even my chalice grow like crazy and that's weird...

i recommend upgrading to ELOS test kits and dose accordingly...

elos test kits are crazy expensive - -but VERY nice kits

your dealing with bubble algae not diatom - -high nutrieants and lighting are the main cause . . water changes, watch the feeding, did either of you add anything fish, corals etc? fast large bio load increases with make a tank go into a tailspin too

cut your lights back to the bare minimum for a few weeks
