NEW african chiclids tank

by volcom

ya so I always wanted an african chiclid tank, but never had enough money after my panted tank, and i just got a 46 gallon tank. I was thinking of getting sand, and going with Malawi chiclids. I just need to know like whatelse to get, what are some ways to higher PH? and so on... just anything about them needed to know. would be great! :)

oh and a small question, whats a real good, quiet filter?
i dont want another canister though, too expensive, although they work amazing. :P

My suggestion is read all you can about them first so you know what they need. They need a different setup than your regular community fish.

Here's some starting points:

http://www.malawimayhem.com/articles_setup_01.shtml
http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/l ... _setup.php
http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/i ... n_list.php

After all that I will answer your questions the best I can :-)
Happy Reading

Go with the cichlids. Why? Because I don't like discus. lol But really, discus are really hard to keep, a pain in the butt. Personally, I like the personality and looks of the cichlids better, too.

Haha thanks so much ya i just got a pile of round rocks, and they fit perfect. But i want to get sand, and it wont affect the ph it says, so if i bought some crushed coral and put it in the filter would that help?

Go with either a huge colony of salousi or demasoni, (LIKE 25)
