Hi,
I have recently bought a Red Scat from my local fish supplier. It is currently living in fresh water (quite happily) and I have been told that it live in both fresh or salt water since it is a brackish water species. I would like to transfer him into my saltwater tank but I'm not sure how to do this. Would it adjust to the different water conditions quite easily? or should I gradually add salt into the current tank (which he lives in by himself) until it reaches the levels of the saltwater tank?

You should probably try adding the salt gradually. I have puffers that are brackish and that's how I did it. They are doing really well. If your fish is a brackish water fish living in freshwater it will most likely improve the health and color of your fish when changing to brackish.
