I'm low on cash but I seriously want to upgrade the size of my tank.
I know I need psychological help and that's beyond the scope of an internet forum but here's my quandary. I am bored with my current system. There's nothing to fix or even closely monitor anymore. Everything is growing very nicely but in the 75g, I have run out of room for all the SPS I want.
I can let this system run and grow for the next 2-5 years and frag accordingly but it's just not the size tank I always wanted.
I am a SPS coral guy first but I really have a desire for an Achilles Tang and a tank large enough to support one.
So, on a budget, I have room enough for a tank measuring 84"long x 30"deep x 24" tall which would yield about 250G. I don't want to spend a grand or more just on the tank, as I can build it myself.
My question to you guys is? Who has actually built their own tank and how much did the materials cost? I am open to either glass or acrylic. The only reason I am stopping at 24" tall is to save money and get two pieces per sheet, if I go with acrylic.
I really need help!

my mate made my tank and it was done quite cheap. just make sure you use the right size glass.
Options are endless if you can do it

I've always wanted to build my own tank. When I upgrade to a 150 Gallon I want to make one that is about 24" tall, but I want it to be a wide tank kind of like a breeder. The only thing that has kept me from trying is the fear of not sealing it up right and having the whole tank explode apart.

i will build a monster tank one of these days
but to be quit honest with you schigara............by the time you get good quality plywood {apple ply is the best @ 170.00 a sheet} the stainless hardware glue caulk and then epoxies you will spend between 1000-1500 on a 200-300 gallon tank.......ive priced options 6 ways to tuesday and theres just no way around it
i priced a 24 x 96 inch piece of star fire glass {the clearest you can get} and one side of the tank was 800 bucks just for the glass
thats why i finally went with this 200 gallon uniquarium from a friend of mine for 1300...........with 3 return pumps {complete system is new and in factory wraping}
but like i said ...............to do a nice DIY tank that big - - -figure 1500 bucks easy and a few weeks easy for construction
