What do you think of this lighting for a planted tank?

Ummmm. I did a lot of research a while back on using those actinic bulbs for freshwater plants and plants do like that spectrum. Daylight is a bit better, but for now the blue will be fine till you replace the bulbs.

I love Amano's stuff. I didn't realize that his lights are so bright. I've been a little worried about a light being too bright because I've heard that it can burn or stress the fish? Myth?

Lights for aquariums are either of the right spectrum, are diffuse lights like flourescents, or are sheilded to protect the fish. It's hallogen lights or halide flood lights that will burn the eyes of fish.
