well yes it is... but the bead filter can be back washed... it gets rid of all of the gunk... it's more for like mechanical cleaning than biological...
and i would reduce the GPH of the protein skimmer there pete...

the beads are made of some porus plastic balls... they're really light... i don't know if they float or not... i doubt it...

all of them are supposed to float... all of they... the current is supposed to be very very strong... they are usually used in ponds with 2hp pumps... so when you back flush, all of the crud comes out with force...

interesting concept - - - im going to assume that the holes in the inlet and outlet "spray bars" want to be smaller than the beads......or you would blast em out of the filter???

well i get my power head in the mail tomorrow hopefully so i will update with photos of the finished product and some of it up and running. I'm so excited!
