bad snails
ive been finding these snails in my tank and i swear they ate some of my star polyps, i tried to remove one and it nearly cemented itself to the rock and there was no getting him off, the shell is like an oval shape and flat on the bottom and then the shell comes to a point, anyone know what these things are? i posted a pic tonight but it probly wont upload for a day or so

im not totally sure. . . but the snail looks like your basic conehead snail. as far as i know, they are reef safe and shouldnt hurt any corals. read this:

yea, its definitly not astreas, i have a few of thoes, i dont know what these things are, but it seems the only way to remove them, is to slice it off with something sharp, i think they ate some regular pink polyps now!

That sounds like a limpet...but given my very limited knowlege of marine fishkeeping, I did do my time collecting shells on the beach, and what your'e describing sounds like a limpet. H/E I don't think I've ever seen anyone in SW aquaria mentioning limpets. lol
Try this on for size:

Edit: I just saw your posted picture, but I'm sorry to say its a bit blurry and blends in too well in the background for me to tell..it doesn't really have the shape of a limpet from what I'm seeing.

Sounds like a Stomatella snail. They are reef safe and good for the reef. They come in on live rock, clams, coral, etc.
I usually see 10-20 a day in the display and refugiums.
