Can you use a wet/dry filtration system in freshwater tanks?
I have a tank that has a wet/dry filtration system. I don't really know how to use it (the tank isn't set up) but I can learn how if it would actually be beneficial/useful to my tank. I've only heard about people using these in saltwater tanks which I understand have different requirements from freshwater. I don't know if a HOB filter might just be easier anyway? Probably less filtration though?

Sure, a wet / dry system can be used in a freshwater setup. You will have to learn how to manage a sump, which is more or less an art form.
Research Aqua Clear hob filters. I run two AC 110's on my 120 gal. Display tank. Very efficient, and a lot less trouble than a wet / dry.
