Black sand for an aquascape
Anything bad about having black sand for substrate? I know ultra white sand, for instance, can be hard to keep clean and looks dirty in between cleanings. I can't think of any downsides to black but I hadn't thought of the bad points with really white colored sand either so I was glad to hear about that ahead of time!

I've heard black makes the tank look smaller (same effect as light colors in rooms makes the room look bigger).
But your fishes colors show up better on black, so personally I like it!

Hope it's not too lat to be answering this question. I love the contrast between the black and the green in planted tanks. Some fish coloring really stands out with it also. But it can look dirty between cleanings quickly I have discovered. Think of it like having a black floor. Every little drop of paper (poo) really stands out.
