Growing plants on driftwood and rock

by friend_of_fish

What kind of plants can I grow on driftwood and rocks? I assume I need to tie them on with something so that the roots can then get established on the wood/rock?

I think ferns are always really pretty in an aquarium. Java fern and african water fern are both the kind you're talking about where you can attach them onto driftwood and things. 'Epiphytic' (sp?) is the term, I believe. :)

That's good to know what they're called, now I'll know what to look for better when I'm trying to find these types of plants. :)

What do you tie your plants onto things with? I'm assuming they make aquarium safe string and things? I'm sure I've seen something like that for sale before. I just don't want my fish getting tangled up in whatever I use...
