algea

by mro2you2

As some as you know I have been dealing with a algea battle sence I got into this hobby. I want this to stop now. Its been going on for 4 months and I am tired of the algea.
I did have some phosphate problems before which gave it a bit boost.

phosphates- 0.3
ph -8.3
ammonia - 0
nitrate -0
nitrite - about zero
salt levels- jdak I got one!! 0.024

yeah I cant guess any thing that is wrong. I never heard of a bloom that lasted so long though.

It was alot worse
first pics of what it was.

second is about what it is now.

Do you mean 1.024? Cause if you had a hydrometer, thats what it should say. Try going a full day or two with no light. See if that will help.

im glad to hear that you picked up a hydrometer..... and try the lights....what kid are you running now... and tank size, i forgot?

my buddy has a 55 with halide and his tank was overrun with algea... i gave him my light strip T-12's and it cleared up in 2 days.... really, i was impressed that it happened that quick.

Do you know the kelvin rating on those bulbs? I winder if it was sold to you with freshwater lighting... Should be 10000k and actinic light. If your bulb is a 67000k or something, it's a freshwater light and will grow algae.
