Sand bed
Just wondering what is the best sand and way to get live sand to spread. I was thinking of using mostly carbisea aragonite sand and adding some live sand on top and hopefully it would spread. suggestions?

get caribsea special floor grade. Its the best by far. it is live sand......so theres no need to add anything else. Critters will come off of your rocks. and your good to go. :)

is there anything wrong with just the caribsea aragonite sand thats not live? I'm just a little bit low on cash!

The dry aragonite is far better (Cheaper) then the so called "Live" aragonite ..A fool and his money.Fihsboy is right about one thing though....it will come alive in time from the bacteria and critters from your live rock.

Wow thank you guys so much, especailly for the link! I actually work at petsmart so it will work out good with my discount! so the floor grade is larger grain size and doesn't get sucked up easily? Is it good for sand dwellers?

No problem ! What type of tank do you have ? or are you trying to set up ? and size? What sand dwellers ?

I like the special sea floor grade because you can use a gravel vac on it. Calcium carbonate binds phosphates, so the cleaner you keep it, the less change of free phosphates in your tank. I personally never used to touch it.....it worked for a while....then my phosphates climed. Cleaned half of the sand bed at a time with three weeks in between cleanings (so you dont wipe out micro organisms that stir sand) i havent had a problem since. :) Thats why i like this grade of sand, it can be vacumed up with a gravel vac and not lose sand in your siphon.

sounds like that will be the sand I'll get! Im setting up next week hopefully on tuesday my 46 gallon bowfront into a FOWLER setup. Not sure on the sand dwellers probably just a few hermits and maybe some gobies. But sorry to go off topic, how much live rock can I add at once, and if i dont do it all at once, is it safe to add over time while fish are in the tank?
