Just to post something new. I saw a baby alligator gar at my lfs and it's chances of getting a pond of multi-thousand gallon tank is improbable.
I love these fish, and would have loved to buy it and raise it in a pond or something, but that's out of the question.
I think it's irresponsible for lfs's to carry such fish. They grow to 10 feet or more in the wild!
Local LFS has a baby alligator gar!!!!???? Illegal in CA

The dude from MFK has one in his 52,000 gallon, he said it was too aggressive for the 15000 gallon, even at around 2ft....

Marks in Studio City near Ventura blvd and Laural canyon on that angled street.
Ask. They have it hidden.
These aren't really aggressive fish, except to fish they can swallow whole or get in it's face trying to steal it's food.

I love gars....Marks is too expensive, but their Tang show tank is awesome. Go to Aquarium City on Sherman Way, just west of DeSoto. Lot's of tanks in pretty good condition. If you don't mind driving to LA, there is my favorite LFS in Cali, which is Yo's Aquarium on Santa Monica Blvd near Western. He is the most knowledgable and has a great selection.

I checked out aqarium city over the weekend, it was pretty cool.. They have a nice planted tank.
I also just found a small petstore called Peggys pet Emporium which is located on Hollywood way and Magnolia, across the street from the Portos parking lot. It doesnt look like much from the outside, but it has a huge selection of plants. Just thought I would share.
