I would go with T5's. They are cheeper, stronger, and low maintence. I have VHO's and they are insane. 300 watts over a 29 gallon. And with corals its a crazy amount of light. You could get equivelent light with T5's with 1/3 the light. Soo 100 watts of T5 would be plenty. aka 4 bulbs. which is most fixtures. set you back around 200-250.

get a 175w metal halide... that viper light fixture is pretty dope... and it will also be around the same price...
either way you are going to spend serious cash for serious lighting... to be honest... if you can't afford it don't start spending money on it...

Lighting is like gumbi said the least of your worries with cash. if your going corals your talking in the 1000's of dollars. no matter the tank size. if your really hard up and still have it in your head you want to do it. you could get away with a soft coral tank with some powercompacts. which will still set you back 130 dollars.
