Well here's the thing. When I got the live rock from the guys tank it was all super purple everything was covered completely. When I put it into my tank it started coming off. Is that normal for it to die off a bit?

Hmmm....got me. Your tank parameters are probably different. Plus there is shock of travel. your tank isnt as mature as his.....so theres one thing. Some snails will eat the stuff. and are you dosing anything besides purple up? Lighting? All play roles in the great purple algae
