Power compacts or T-5's .................my PC's run about 180 bucks and they are 30 inches - - a standard 29 gallon is the same as a 20 long - - - in length

i have a 175w metal halide on my 35g tank... but i recomend t5's... well at least for the 10,000k or 12,000k spectrum... nothing compares to they when you use t5 daylights... actnics i like vho or PC...

VHO's are only really good for acticnics... you will get more growth with 120W of T5's... believe me... they have like 96 lumen's per Watt... or something like that... my friend' 100g tank has 440W of VHO's and 110W of T5's... everything opens up more with the T5's compared to the VHO's... so now the VHO's are only acticnic... but soon he's going to get rid of the VHO's all together... he's going to get a 8x54W T5 setup and only have 2x110W VHO acticnics... that's hot...

i found that the cheap T5 lights on ebay have only one chord and this makes it impossible to time the different lights to come on at certain times. You have to manually switch the lights, sh!tty...

you can get a T5 fixture at Home Depot for 2 T5's for cheap. I got a 24" that will hold up to a 28watt bulb.....which is more than a HO bulb.....for 24 bucks. Havent tried it with a HO bulb yet....I have 14 watt 10000k bulbs in it. its over my refuge.
