How many lbs for a DSB?
My tank is 36 in. x 18.5 in. How many lbs should total should I use to have a good 3-4" DSB. I know to add them over time.

ive got 2-3 inches in my 20 gallon long 12X30 inches and that 40lbs so 4 inches would be 80 lbs ......................150 lbs is prolly a pretty good figure, crazy how that shit adds up eh? lol

damn, that is rediculous. I think I will just probably do something like pimp has. Use some sort of platform for the live rock to sit on that will displace the sand so I can use less and it will still be 4 inches deep every where else.

I have probably 80 in my 29 and the sand bed is only 2 inches. my refuge is a 20 gal and I have 80+ in there. prolly close to 200lb total system which is somewhat crazy...but it filters great. the refuge sandbed is 5inches by 30 by 12.5. Not sure the volume on that....but its a lot suface area on the sand is about 150 square feet. in the refuge. a TON of room for bacteria. which means I feed as much as I want. Get a good refuge and you will be fine.

Well, you bring up another question fihsboy. The tank im getting comes with a Megaflow sump model 2. Can I use this like a refuge?? It seems like I can, but I am not sure. Every search I did turned up nothing. Here's the link to what sump I have: http://www.petsolutions.com/default.asp ... ID=FROOGLE
