Okay.....so my lfs is selling a 70 gallon Tech show tank with built in overflow and a built it 250 metal halide.....300 bucks. Yes thats right....300. Light and ballast included. So im thinking about getting it.....but im poor......but I will go in debt for a deal like this......Only concern....Is my stand enough to support it? I have four 2x4,s holding it up. The supports are 2x4's and I built it large enough.......but will it support 700 lbs? Any ideas?

can you sister up the supports? if so i would think you would be ok, and add some corner braeing to keep any sway in check

Get a few buddies to sit on the stand at the same time.

Okay I will throw some more braces on it. Shouldnt be too hard. I forgot to mention....its all held together with 3/4 inch plywood. Which is really heavy. Im thinking if I brace it....it should be fine. Plus the deal includes the stand.....but its crap. it is only held together with 5 2x4's. I bought the tank today......321.00 for stand tank and light. The guy next to me was (contemplating) buying it. So I walk in and say name your price......he told me i had the money, the other guy didnt......It was mine. :) Yay! So after realizing I love Saltwater....I bought a nice 70 gallon tech tank! YES! Fish Ideas?

Its going to be a week or two before I get it up and running. I have to transport my fish to the store...and my corals...ugh. Its going to be a major make over.....But it will be worth it for sure!

Timber is very strong considering. I always over do it because it makes you shit your self thinking of it collapsing.

Which is what I would like to avoid....shedding tears over my tank would certainly suck. Plus.....if it were to fall....everything would be dead.......everything would be broken.......It would suck. Thats why I want to make sure. The stand it was on isnt built as well as the one I have. So im thinking it should be fine, I just dont want to test it. haha. I like to over build. And this isnt over building. Im going to cut some more 2x4's with 45 degree angles for some extra support. But considering I wrapped the whole thing with 3/4ths inch....Im thinking it will be plenty strong.
