my 55 is up and running just fine now, minus a small ich problem that im dealing with thanks to advice from puffedupseagull . but now im getting the all clear from the boss of the house to get a bigger tank!!
im planning on building a bidder tank. i dont have $1500 to down on just a tank, so im going to build a stand and tank. what is a good size to keep larger tangs, and possibly groupers?
it cant be much longer ...prolly no more than 72". but it can be higher, and deeper.
i was thinking maybe 72 long, 30 deep, and 24 high. does anyone know how many gallons thatd be?
going bigger

You could def go 200 gallons with that kind of dimensions. and shop craigslist........prolly 800 for tank and stand. There is a 180gal tank in town goin for 600.........Wish i had the room. We have a Pet surplus store that has a 250 brand new for 900. just shop around. and a 55 sump.............im jealous. your possibilites are endless! I could sink 10 grand EASY with that kinda set up. Hope it works out for you!

i just did this little "build your own aquarium" thing on petco.com
i created a tank, 125gal, with a pine cabinet stand, overflow, and megaflow sump filter. all of it together is $1400.
is this good?

singapore,
I'm a cheap bastard, lol, so IMO the tank is worth 300 and the sump is worth 300, and definately the stands at petsmart here are WORTHLESS so i'm saying that system on a good day is worth 800-1000 dollars but thats just me .
but seriously though look at those stands, i wouldn't stand on em let alone put 700-800 lbs of water on top ...................i posted yesterday that Petsmart here is selling a 180 galllon long tank for 299.00 - - and the stand is like 450 and cheesy as hell - - I will always build my own stands because it gives me the option to match the house decor , put things {sumps, pumps, electrics} where i want them and they are 10 times stronger than the press wood with veneer set ups
goog luck
