Cleaner Fish - i.e. algae eater, pleco, etc. suggestions

by LeviNHeidi4480

Hello everyone. I was wondering if anyone had ideas for a good cleaner fish or two that would work in my 55 gallon tank. I have two chinese algae eaters, but will be trading them in to the pet store for something else. They just aren't as great as I thought they could be. By the way, my tank has community fish.

I've got a 60 gallon with a pleco, and it does wonders!

The Chinese algae eaters are great for brown algae... but they grow to be quite aggressive as pointed out in your other thread... they begin to eat the slime coating off of other fish. Pleco's do a great job overall, they won't touch brown algae, but they work wonders on everything else. Good luck

Thanks for the suggestions people. I actually talked to a guy at the local shop and he said the same thing about plecos. Another great thing about this guy is that he loves big plecos. He said if I get one and it grows too large, he would take it back and give us a new one. Thanks again.

I've heard rosy barbs and mollies eat green hair algae

Thanks again people. I purchased a small pleco today. He should have plenty to work with in the aquarium.
