all of them are supposed to float... all of they... the current is supposed to be very very strong... they are usually used in ponds with 2hp pumps... so when you back flush, all of the crud comes out with force...

interesting concept - - - im going to assume that the holes in the inlet and outlet "spray bars" want to be smaller than the beads......or you would blast em out of the filter???

well i get my power head in the mail tomorrow hopefully so i will update with photos of the finished product and some of it up and running. I'm so excited!

dang... im mad now. i only got the sand in the mail because they split it up and did two seperate orders, so i dont get the powerhead till the 22nd....... GAH. Oh well, they don't even sell anything near that power at my lps's. and i saved about $80-100 bucks ordering it online.

When is enough ever enough? Putting this new sand filter in is going to give me 825 gph filter rate. Making it 13.75 gpm on a 30 gallon tank. A bit much? haha

You can never have too much filtration IMO, and having extra filtration capacity means you can get bigger tanks without needing to get a whole new setup.
