hey schig... do you know where i can get a 250w MH retrofit kit for cheap shipped...? i'm thinking about upgrading my lighting system... i'm thinking about going 520w total lighting... i got the hook ups on all kinds of SPS corals in the fish club that i didn't know of before... they're giving me huge frags for 5-10 bucks each... but i need to upgrade lights, and get a chiller... fail... probably score another two koralia's for the tank to don't you think...?

Sorry man, dunno. I got my blueline e-ballasts cheap locally as well as the reflectors, DE sockets and bulbs.
One of my LFS owners keeps an awesome SPS/mixed tank with just an array of T5's and his stuff grows much faster than mine with halides. He has about 30x's turnover rate and I have about 40x's.
Also, flow is great and helps to suspend organics in the water column to be skimmed and keep nitrates low but too much flow just makes the SPS grow thick and slows the outward growth. This has been my experience with SPS.

Don't fret too much over water movement with SPS. A member of the club here is an SPS junkie with more that 120x's turnover rate. His SPS look like body builders on steroids and take forever to grow but he could probably throw in a cheeseburger a day and it would be churned up and skimmed out without raising the nitrate level at all.

Here's an example of what semi heavy flow has done to a coral of mine. The first and second pic are 6 months apart.

lol yeah. It's gonna look better once it grows outward and branches more.
It's funny though, out of the 25 or so species of SPS in my tank, that one is the main one that everyone in my club wants a frag of. Well, that and the Blue Tort.
