i had an F-5 cross the road right up the the road from my second house and it then took a bounce and landed on Chanute KS - -crazy thing was it landed right on top of the municiple building which is where the police station, the firehouse and the ambulances are all housed - - so in about seconds the complete town was destroyed and had no emergency services .... that tornado did scare me

A1k ....you remember that storm? and then a few yearslater i ended up in {i wanna say smithton MI, straight south of Jeff city} - -that was bigger than an F-5 but they didn't have the EF system in place then

I think the most wonderful weather related experience I had was living in Maine in '98 during the ice storm that was declared a national disaster across New England.

I didn't have power for over 2 weeks. Many babies were born across the state 9 months later. It's amazing what you find time to do with no TV/PC/Lights/Heat.

to add to Tims post....................it is amazing how something so destructive can be so beautiful.........we've had some pretty bad ice storms here in upstate NY as well, not like they get but bad enough and things take on a completley different look when they are covered in a coat of ice, light looks different, trees look like something out of a Dr Suess book...............cars and houses look prehistoric............it's a wonderful thing to see if you can just stop and look for a bit while trying to figure out how to survive .....and make babies, lol

I think tornadoes are exiting, though I've only seen a small one which cut a 20 foot wide path through dense woodlot. I'm sure my additude would change if I were to experience loss of property or life.

they are incredable...............i wasn't a storm chaser but i was usually the last to head underground if i even went down ...................i saw a 1 inch tree branch shoved under a gas pump and the pump was still bolted down to the island with 4 bolts, which means the wind had to torque the pump without breaking it and then blow a branch under it and release the pump all at the same time ..............the same gas station had all the front windows blown out and 4 rows of groceries includeing the shelveing were all balled up in the back corner of the store and on the front counter the register and a bucket of candy were still there and all the cigerettes were in the racks over the register..........moved 1000's of lbs of shelfs but left ounces of cigarettes alone....pretty crazy shit if you ask me - -oh and the 2 story brick building across the street was gone completly ....no bricks for a couple blocks and 5-6 blocks away they found half a dozen bricks inside a train locomotive ..................
