okay, well my only concern is their size, they are freaking tiny like an inch tops. i dont know its a thinker.

Okay I put a piece of drift wood in there and now the water is brown like tea... is this normal? will it cleat up? It has been in there for 2 days.

Driftwood will stain water for a couple weeks. Some people soak it before adding it to their tank. After putting 2 pieces of driftwood in my tank it took 3 or 4 water changes before it was perfectly clear again. Don't worry it's normal.

I got away with adding another tank by putting something really cute in it that my partner decided was "ok". Two little African Dwarf Frogs. If I had put a crayfish in there, it, and me, would've been on the driveway within minutes.

When I use driftwood I boil it over and over until the water is nearly clear and then it does not make tea in my tank. It also kills any bacteria or fungus, or any other crap, that may be present. I got fungus in a 10 gallon from a piece I didn't boil. Bad, bad. Everything is boiled now. It is not uncommon to see wood boiling in my kitchen. Although that isn't always popular either.....

Yea. Don't worry about the color. It's tannins, like tea basically, and depending on the peice it may take a couple months to stop leeching into the water. Like others have said it won't hurt the fish.

The bad thing about discolored water is that it mucks with the water tests that rely on color matching.

I think when a sample is put into a test tube it will be hard to see the discoloration except maybe at the very beginning when the water is the darkest.

oh i have the test strips. little more expensive but well worth it. get it all done with one strip.

test strips are not as accurate as liquid tests though...

Unless you're like me and do the 15 secs and shake then add 3rd dropper 7x - 3 per fish divided by the number of effing elbows you can throw x2 at the moron who designed dropper tests.

I hate dropper tests. I can never get teh instructions right. I think the last time I checked my ammonia the water turned purple....-.-
